YOUR BUSINESS WORKPLACE PARTNER

WHAT IT TAKES TO COLLABORATE

Collaboration is a work style effective for handling evolving business conditions and the speed of change.

It’s also effective for managing the interplay of these factors, which is the real challenge of doing business today.
As former IBM CEO Samuel Palmisano wrote, “...events, threats and opportunities aren’t just coming at us faster or with less
predictability; they are converging and influencing each other to create entirely unique situations. These first-of-their kind developments
require unprecedented degrees of creativity.

SITTING CAN BE GOOD FOR THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

Physical inactivity is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and it is becoming increasingly prevalent. It ranks similarly to cigarette
smoking, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol as contributors to heart ailments. When a person’s activity level declines, the
rate of heart disease increases. What’s more, less- active, less-fit persons have a 30 to 50 percent greater risk of developing high blood
pressure (New York State Department of Health, 2008). Only 30.9 percent of U.S. adults report engaging in leisure-time physical
activity (American Heart Association, 2008). / See Figure 2 / More than ever, people are opting for sedentary activities rather than active ones.
